Black Friday - Who will brave the crowds?

I am toying with the idea of heading over to a store early on Friday to try to get a deal.

The deal i'd really like is at Best Buy... but in my opinion Best Buy is just about the worst place to camp out (they encourage the crowds, limited supplies, everyone always goes there, etc).

Any of you guys ever done the camp out thing at Best Buy? Is it just better to avoid going there?

i woke up @ 4am and did it last year.... never again. plus, im too broke to go shopping anytime in the near future.

yeah that Toshiba one for $250...i'm tempted also....but i don't want to get beat up by some suburban house mom either

Definitly LOL It was actually by accident. I was planning on going over around 4 AM to get that computer, but I got bored around 11PM and decided to go drive by and there was a small line forming already! So I just stayed there and got in line. I wasnt dressed for cold weather, but some dude shared his blanket LOL

I want to go to the best buy in alpharetta, but I dont' want to have to sit outside for hours and hours. :-(

However... if I am ever going to do it.... then this is the year because I'm at home alone this thanksgiving (parents are over in Europe) so I can do whatever with my free time this evening.

I want the panasonic TV... but am not sure its worth staying out there for hours and hours through the coldest part of the night.

Here's what I think is funny: Last year people camped out ALL NIGHT at Best Buy and Walmart for their cheap laptops. Some people even got hostile when the doors opened. I showed up at Brandsmart 1 hour before they opened, waited in line and when the doors opened I picked up a laptop that was much better in everyway for only $100 more than those others. Then went to Staples and picked up a memory card for my camera, a wireless mouse for my brand new laptop, and a 19" Samsung flat panel monitor for my desktop computer, and was at work by 7am. Quick, painless, nonviolent, and I got everything I wanted.

Moral of the story: just because it's the cheapest doesn't mean that it is the best deal, and sometimes camping out over night doesn't mean shit.

i will defintely be out there most of the people in lione are waiting to put something on lay away. so if you have cash you can walk in and out in 1/2 hour if you know what you are looking for like i did last year at wal-mart. the lay away line was wrapped around the store but the lines were moving faster than on a regular shopping day. now best buy / circuit city/ brandsmart will be a mad house but i am looking for specific things in and out and move on.

Little do they know, that they are wasting a lot of time, then. As of November 17, there is no more lay-a-away. THat was the last dya to put shit on there. It has to be out by Dec. 8. Sucks for them. Later, QD.

actually amazon had a special yesterday at 2pm, 1000 xbox360's going for $100.

got one

then i camped out at best buy for an lcd screen and a 42 inch plasma.

anyways, i went there at 11pm... and the line at bestbuy was already huge. and i thought i was

for going so early

I was #21 in the line at best buy. I got there at 5:45PM and was all set to camp out for 11 freakin hours for the one item I wanted, and then i got a phone call....

<dude on phone> Dude, don't wait out there all night. I will give you the same deal on that TV. I'll even put it aside especially for you. Just show up at this location around 5'ish tomorrow morning (Friday).

So, at 8:20PM I left the Alpharetta Best Buy line. Like *everyone* there wanted the laptops. I and one other guy were the only ones interested in the plasma.

Anyways... alls well that ends well. I got the item I wanted, and another for a friend. Hopefully I won't be tempted to do that again next year.
