i'm pretty sure walther guns have been available in one way or another for quite a while (their ppks were favorites of many). but as far as s&w distributing for them, that indeed has only been going on since 2000 or around that time. they do make great guns, in fact, i did a shit ton of research before i bought my p99 in 9mm and found that in just about every test, it outshot the glock and the h&k usp compact.
