Webster's dictionary has this for a definition for the grammatical way you use the word:

tradition: cultural continuity in social attitudes, customs, and institutions

Now this is only the third time since 1999 that a Star Wars movie will be out. And it will be the last. I don't see that that qualifies as a tradition.
