Alex, most of the time the doctor will schedule a c-section before your due date so the woman never goes into labor. The risk is really quite low with a c-section, because herpes doesn't transfer through the umbilical cord. The other risk is blindness, because a herpes outbreak can damage the baby's eyes if it passes through the birth canal. That's why all newborn pictures have squinty, puffy red eyes because doctors put silver nitrate drops in their eyes to prevent this, in case the mother had herpes while giving birth and she didn't know about it.Originally Posted by carrascopa
