    u kinda have to they take alot of time at the begining from what ive heard the only reason I got one was cause my parents came up to visit and my dad set it up for me. I never really had time casue I was always gone due to work. but man the algea eater lasted like a year by him self in there just happy as all get out I think he was like 7 or 8 inches long when he died. lowest maintenance pet I ever had..
