lock a mofo out!
I was wondering if anyone knows the laws in georgia on changing the locks in a house that you own and not giving a key to someone else that is on the mortgage if they are not living there. Basically my X girlfriend has moved out and i didn't feel comfortable with her having a key to the house any more since she has stolen from me so i changed the locks. I just want to know the law. Does anyone know what my rights are especially since she has stolen from me?

Technically, if she "resides" there and she pays rent, pays mortgage, or had a verbal agreement with you, your suppose to evict the bitch and get a sheriff to do it but that takes time.
If you already changed the locks just tell her to fuck off, she probably isn't smart enough to know the law.
Nevermind, I just reread where you said she moved out. She can't do squat. You are ok to change the locks since she no longer lives there.
The part i'm wondering about is where her name is on the mortgage... I wonder if that makes a difference...
I don't know how you get out of that. Her being on the mortgage kinda screws things up for you. Technically, if your both on the mortgage she is suppose to let you know when she wants to come in the house to get "her" things, but I would ask for a police officer to be present and follow her around the house watching her like a hawk.

My main concern is not that she will try to move back in or something like that since she is 99% moved out and i'm sure she doesn't want to live with me any more. My concern is that she will try something evil, like messing up my stuff or taking more of my things. Since she took that $500 out of my bank account without asking I don't feel that I can trust her. I think that would stand up pretty good in court or wherever it would be questioned as to why she is on the mort. and doesn't have a key. I'm just hoping to find exactaly where it states what the law is regarding an issue like this. I might have a lawyer i could contact... Anyone here into law?
If she doesnt live there for over 30 days, then she has nothing to do with the house. She might be able to demand to be let in the house whenever she watns since she is on the mortgage, but legally she cant do shit after 30 days, especially if she isnt paying the bills.

you should do a smart-ass move by finding her somewhere, give her the other keys to the locks....and then give her the locks. but be sure to think of something good to say to her though.
