Police said Elliott Kingsley Sloan, 21, of Norcross, was driving his 1999 Honda Civic east on Steve Reynolds Boulevard.

A witness said Sloan ran through a stoplight at the intersection, according to police spokesman Cpl. Darren Moloney. The Honda then collided with a 2001 Ford Explorer traveling south on Venture Drive. The Explorer was driven by Nathaniel P. Patterson IV, 28, of Stone Mountain.

Sloan and Patterson were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where Sloan died from his injuries, Moloney said. Patterson was discharged from the hospital.

In Lawrenceville, an unidentified homeless man was struck by a car and killed as he tried to cross Ga. 20 (Buford Drive) near Ga. 316 at 9:15 p.m.

Ga. 20 is four lanes plus a center turn lane at that portion of the road.

Lawrenceville authorities said a teenager in a gray Honda Civic apparently struck the man. Low visibility may have been a factor.

The driver's name was not available Tuesday.
