What happened to these cars? I rarely see them at meets, nor do I see any nicely modified ones on the road.

that is what I thought also. as soon as the first fast an furious movie came out. they were hot. and everyone was doing them. but them probably realize that modded or not they were always fucking up.
yea the aftermarket really is not that great. but here's mine. I enjoy it, It's not fast by anymeans but I do enjoy driving it. it's the V6 btw. most all the ones you see on the road are pathetically riced out.

Damn, nice man.
I know the insurance is a bitch, it would be more than the car payment for me.
My favorite 3G.

nice eclipse imbosile....i have a buddy that has a black 3g....its a GT also, its blacked out with black wheels, forgot which kind....but he's got basic bolt-ons and its decently quick
You dont see them around because they dont respond well to any sort of bolt on engine modification, the bottom end can't handle any sort of significant boost, and the car still handles like a pig with a complete aftermarket suspension setup.
Sorry if it sounds like I'm bashing on the owners, but i've modded and autocrossed a 2000 gt fedspec, so this is from personal experience. They are decent little cars out of the box, but they just arent worth the trouble when it comes to modification.

Shocks/struts, springs, sway bar, strut tower, exhaust, "intake", and short shifter.
The car will be a totally different monster... Not compared to other cars on the road, but at least to the stock form... A night and day difference.
I still strongly support the "Stronger platform" idea, but if you are looking for a fun ride for the next few years, that is my suggestion.
