If you have a tattoo on the lower part of your back, in the "injection" site (for an epideral) that they will NOT administer you the epideral if you indeed want one. Apparently the ink can get into your blood stream and cause infection.
and if thats the case, and there is no lower spinal column to inject in, they will give a iv.

lol glad i could be of use. i do know they didnt prefer to do it there, and if the tat is less than 6 months old they wont because it can contaminate, so if u got a back tat while u were pregnant <white trash> i guess it could be true.

Two things:
An Epidural is not the only form of treatment you can take to ease the pain of Labor.
The shot from an Epidural goes into your spine.. I don't see how someone would figure a tattoo prevents a needle from doing this, furthermore the Epidural shot is placed in the mid to upper back area, not the lower back if I remember correctly.
When the contractions start to come closer and closer I dont think the pain from an Epidural would seem that bad. The one thing to be concerned about though is that there is a risk of paralysis with the procedure, although the chances are slim its still something that should be known.
You have a nasty habit of being wrong. My wife has a lower back tat andn got herself an epideral with our first child. Hmmmm. Later, QD.

you should really check out what's the truth and what's not before you go and make a idoit of yourself. You can have a lower back tat and they can give you epideral no problem. Maybe you should ask before you speak next time!

oooo and you can go out and get a tattoo and or peircing the day before you give blood now... I worked the blood drive and we were told that it didnt matter how old or new they were they can still take your blood bc they screen it anyway and it didnt matter.....once again ask before you speak...

Yeah I have 2 tattoos on my lower back, and I had a baby in August and I didn't have a problem getting an epidural. I don't know where you get your info from....but you are very mistaken. You CAN get an epidural if you have a tattoo on you're lower back.
I've seen them administer an epidural thru an IV......so I really guess this was really just a free thread to boost up post counts.

Im sorry but I dont know where you are getting your information. The "injection" site as you call it is different in a every woman...my fiancee had two because neither worked and they were no where near here lower back...more like a little bit lower than the center of her back. And the only way the doctor said he wouldnt do the epidural is if she had her tongue ring in which she had to take out until after she gave birth, so as not to risk choking on her tongue.
