    Default i've officially decided....

i'm going back to college come this fall. retail is kicking my ass... the money is ok, but i'm tired of working weekends... tired of having a peice of shit schedule... i was happy with it at first, but now its just really tiring and i've seen the real world without a college education, and thats not for me... other people might be able to make it work, i dont want to be one that just "gets by."

sorry, just had to vent for a second.

Retail is not that bad... Just got to find the right retail business. School may or may not work. If you decide to go to school, go for something that will make real money.

Exactly. Alot of people get degrees just to work in retail.

Unless you have a whole plan all mapped out on what you are going to school for, what the job market is with your field, and what's the lowest and average salary.....look at all those kids who went to tech schools for web design....not doing a damn thing, market is saturated. Just be sure to have a plan and not "winging" it.

Dont get me wrong.. School is great.. But at this point if you are not going to get a degree to make real cheese you better of spending time working then in school right for a silly career. Shit.. I rather start early with my 401k/IRA/Investing =]

a lot of ppl go to school undecided on their majors...once they get some electives under their belt, they find their niche, and there you go. I know ppl make it with out and education, but an education is something NO ONE can take away from you! The sooner you go to school, the more years you will have with a degree, and on average a college grad makes 2 million more in a life time then a non grad. Im not saying that an education is a "sure thing" to a great career, but the benefits of an education certainly outweigh the costs.

Bhwhahahahahah If it wasnt for the doctors, pharmacist, dentist, lawyers.. That extra 2 million per life time quote would not exist... Those are careers that make real money.. I know there are a few more

Actually in this country for certain jobs experience means everything... Go ahead and get a degree in Business and compare yourself to someone whos been in business( with no College Degree) for about the same amount of time it took you to finish school and see who gets hired 1st??

alota schools now have work-programs so their graduates will be ready for the "real world". In my major, we have to take hours working with the athletic program/rec center/medical center. I have grown up in hospitals and athletic programs, both participating and working with them. That is my background, and that is why I decided on sport medicine. My tract has me to undergrad and a 2 yr grad/work program. So, if you know what you want, you probably have an intrest/background in that field. Its all relative to each indiviual case. Go for it! You only live once, do what makes you happy. I have a hella good time in college; in class/ with my peers/ on campus. As they say; different strokes for different folks!

Thats a diffrent topic. You have been doing the correct way though. That kicks ass the way you have been doing it.. that right there will pay off, because you been doing that for awhile.

But I dont know much about Collins background though.. all i know hes been working in retail for awhile.

so why not try something new...you never do until you try! One should never EVER let someone tell them that they cant do something. Education brings new perspectives. Enriched and alternative thought process can do a lot to open new doors/interests/hobbies

the thing is, i have an idea what i want to do, so i'm going to go to the advisors at the school i choose to attend to get more advice. i've talked to people in my field of interest. its not going to be just a 2 year tech school. my theory is if you go, go all out, so bachelors will be the minimum i go for. possibly even masters down the road. anyway, i'm done with basic retail... not quitting just yet, lol cause i gotta fund the schooling somehow, so i'll deal with it for now lol. but yeah, i was just throwing that out there. i've given it alot of thought, and i've come to the conclusion that i, personally, can go farther in life if i continue my education. and hopefully in the long run, all the hard work will pay off. if not, then it'll be a good experience. because as stated previously, education is one thing that NOBODY can take away from you, and that sounds good to me.

Tried the college thing for 2 years and quit...tried retail, was a manager at autozone for a year and got really tired of that. Quit and got hooked up working mon-fri 9-5 at the atlanta auto auction on the BMW FS account. But if i decide to go back they pay for 95% of schooling.

You wont regret it. I spent about 6 months after highschool, working retail, and doing my own thing. I actually went as far as moving to Georgia for a fresh start but it is definetely the best decision i've ever made. Times will be rough... it will be a bitch to mod your car... and to pay your bills... really discouraging... but for the money you'll make the rest of your working days, without having to worry about back breaking work and shitty schedules for crap money... it's definetely a wise investment.

    Good luck.

p.s. I'm now going to Gsu for psychology.

Either one of those is going to take him a minimum of 6 years, so get prepped well for that, incase thats the route you want to head down. Im heading down the doctor route myself hopefully, and im just about done being a freshman lol. Now 7 more years of school, and however odd number of years of residency, and I'll give you guys the IA discount at my practice .

I don't know if you were dicking with me or not... The average salary for someone starting out with an undergraduate is around 30-40k... Shitty? Sure. However, I do intend on getting my phd and opening my own practice, in which case the salary range is 100k +

Doesn't sound like "shitty" pay to me, especially considering it's something I enjoy. To each their own i suppose.

julio, i personally couldnt be a doctor! lol but thats just me.... my whole thing is that i really dont want a desk job. i dont want the normal 9-5. i like the sales industry, just not necessarily in retail. so what i've been thinking about is corporate sales. i've talked to several people, including my brother, who gave me some insight on what all goes on with it, and so far i like what i've heard. you get paid travel, paid mileage, easy work schedule, AND you get to establish that customer base, which really is more my level. but yeah i'm lookin forward to it, and it'll be a fresh start for me... i've almost got my associates finished. i only need like, one more semester. then i start on the good stuff. i know money will be a lot tighter, but thats ok. i'm willing to do what it takes to get it done.

Seriously, school is the way to go. Its not what you learn, its that piece of paper you get that opens doors.

every career you choose is the career you choose.....people dont go int careers that dont make alot of money to make alot of money, they go into careers like those becasue they like it and want to do that certain thing. i mean take me, im hopefully going to graduate with a degree in history and minor in education or vise versa. but i mean, i know there isnt much pay in the teaching feild unless you get your masters. but honestly im goin into that feild because i like that kind of stuff, and i wouldnt mind teaching my knowledge other kids...and besides stay in the certain district for a long ass time lol and your set for retirement lol.

honestly, i dont think its whether or not you go into a job expecting money, its the effort that you put into the job. look at the post office people, they deal with mail all day. but you know that when they are old n retired they aint got shit to worry about

to be completly honest, i had no intention of going back. i said i might one day, but i honestly never wanted to... until now. looking back, my last job was ok because i was still very young, fresh outta highschool, barely in college, and i was doing ok... then things started going down hill, so it was time for a change. i had heard about other opportunities and i decided to try it. at first, it was good. not HOLY SHIT I'M A BIG BALLER, but i did ok. now i'm tired of just doing "ok" and want to have a job i can really be proud of. i'm looking at long term now instead of "hey with this paycheck, i can do XXX to the car!!!" now i'm looking at, when i want to settle down and possibly start a family, i want the means to do so. i want to start preparing now for what i want to accomplish in the future.

I am in my third year of college and I don't want to go anymore. Sometimes I feel like school is not for me. I have decided to take a semester off that way I can rest and get my motivation back. I know I need a degree in this world. I don't want to be stuck with a dead end job and no way out for the rest of my life. I plan on having a family and I feel I need a degree to give them the things I want

Once you take a semester off you wont wanna go back.. I did the same thing and after 3 years at ga southern I left 15 hours away from a Bio degree.

Well, I figured that if I register myself for the spring semester I will have to go back to prevent myself from getting lazy. I just really need a break. I mean I have no motivation to go to school at all. I am just tired of school. I have not had a break except for summer, but that is not enough.

Yeah that's the thing. Like I don't really know where I want to work. I have to find a summer job and I can't really decide where I would want to work. I am so damn picky. The only job (well two jobs) that I had that I liked a lot was Hooters and Backstage music. I can't work at Hooters for the rest of my life and Backstage closed down. I don't know. Maybe if I keep praying I will find something

Collins Im proud of ya man..

As far as expeirence goes I have to agree with Julio. Im a Vet technician, one of the most underpaid job and overworked people. I have 5+ years of expeirence and at the last vet in conyers I was making more than a certified Tech that had only a year of expeirence. Alot of Vets these days are so short handed they cant handle training a tech from scratch, they need someone who already knows alot and can conform to the small differences at their practice. In my 5+ years of teching I have worked at 6 different vets (3 of them being small summer jobs) and the min I made was 10/hr. Im now working part time at a vet right near my house and making 13+ an hour (again part time)..
