It doesn't matter who opened it.. that can of worms should never have existed in the first place.. like you said, it takes two to tango.. they are both at fault.. Aimee will not get off the hook that easily..

Whether or not they were about to break up is completely irrelevant - THEY ARE STILL A COUPLE AND ANYONE WITH ANY SORT OF BRAINS/MORALS CAN SEE THAT THE SITUATION WAS/IS WRONG...

I have to say, I'm gonna agree with Sara in this case and say Aimee was very wrong in doing what she did. She's not defending herself, which makes her look even more guilty. I also think Derek was wrong in doing that to Sara, and he too is at fault, in my eyes...

That's just MO, not that it matters at all what I think.
