Volkswagen translates to "Peoples Car" and was named by the British, it was previously called KdF-wagen after the town Hitler had built for the factory workers, Kraft durch Freude Stadt.Originally Posted by Hulud
The town of KdF was then named Wolfsburg after WWII and the british military then took over the factory (new one that was destroyed during war), naming it Volkswagen, then by 1948 they handed it back over to Germany and began exporting the beetle...
Hitler didn't invent the beetle, he did [supposedly] design the Kübelwagen on a napkin though which later turned into our Volkswagen Thing.
