fighter jets in stone mountain??
so i'm sitting at my G/F's house out near stone mountain(less than a mile away) and i hear what sounds like fighter jets flying real close to ground level in repeated circles. WTH?? but since ther is a igh cloud cover i cant see them/it. anyone in the stone mountain/decatur area hear that shit ?

yeah. i was listening like WTF? cause i've heard that sound plenty of times in my past. living on a naval base withthe blue angels you get used to that sound quick. i knew it wasnt thunder
i was just about to post this...im in loganville/snellville, and it circled like twice, then was gone...crazy

In the past 2 weeks i have seen 2 fly over my joba couple of times. Couldnt tell what kind cuz they flew by so fast. But from what it looked like it was either a f18 or, only other jet that i can think of that looks similar from undernath is a mig29, but i doubt it was a mig
probaly JSF testing or raptor testing from NAS/lockheed

just wondering who else had heard that. cause after living in stone mountain alost 3 years. i've never heard fighter jets over this area. i know you'd hear them in the alpharetta area with NASatlanta being just over the hill in cobb. but tonite was the first time i've heard them in this area.
They fly around here all the time. They use where I went to high school as practice lockin on to targets and shit.
guys, it was becuasee the president was here, they were doing rounds before the plane took off, me and my freind were sitting in a neighborhood pool parking lot n heard it, fucking thought the shit ws gettin bombed or something or a plane was commin down, when i looked up into the sky i could see the after burners and everything, it was loud as fuck but really cool to be able to see that

A Czech trainer jet took off from Briscoe at about 6:25 last night then less than an hour later two jets were playing overhead towards stone mtn....some say they both had single rear jets with swept back wings and light formations like an F-16 but one person swears they were F-35's and saw them the day before also...
I never got to see them because the ceiling was too low but upon more researching more...Briscoe has a 6,000 foot runway and F-16's require 7k'...If they were landing at Briscoe then it couldn't have been F16's. The F-35 looks like the F-22 but has a vertical takeoff. They could have been just circling waiting for Air Force One to come up from Hartsfield (7pm depature) but seems like it would be really stupid for two jets to be doing that anywhere near an airfield (they were low)
Air Force One always has protection nearby so i'm going to assume they were just waiting for it but still no clue what they were...still don't kow why the one guy thought they were F35's unless he saw them take up vertically...could easily have been F22's. What's the normal escort plane for AFO though? (f-16's?)
There are no "normal" escort for AF1. Generally they are supported by F15s... if they were 16s then they would have a SW on the tail from Shaw AFB, SC. 9th Air Force at Shaw flies CAP missions for AF1 and AF2 in the NEUS and SEUS sectors (Northeast US and Southeast US). They coordinate the hand-off based on the flight plans. If they were single rear engines then I'd bet they were 16s and not F35s though. Published literature will give runway length requirements for TO and Landings, but they are not rules of engagement for CAP and Security missions. Support of AF1 and AF2 and other high level ops use wartime ROE, this means that the divert bases along the way do not have to meet the normal ops for runway length or aircraft ground equipment support... they use CD and CTO (combat decent and combat take offs) from basically any runway that's along the flight plans. It is not strange for fighters to "play" anywhere along the glide slope for the expected TO and landing area... this is b/c the anti-missle (called HAV sirens) sirens on fighters do not have the range as they do on the US Air Force heavy aircraft.
PS: it seems that the trainer jet taking off is just a coincidence, although getting a DIP Clearance (diplomatic clearance) to launch an hour before or an hour after expectred AF1/AF2 arrival is tough to do.

That's what i was thinking...even just being a trainer (still a weapon) i'm suprised they allowed it to be airborn 30 minutes before...it was going to Florida and could have easily faked a mechanical problem requiring it to come back then say there was a landing gear problem so it had to remain airborn...assuming if that were to happen there would be a pair of f15 or f16's on it like gnats on a hot georgia summer day though.

I was outside waxing the Megacab and they flew right over my house. Saw the green marker lights on the wings at about 2k AGL. I was figuring they were F-18's they sure did sound awesome. I like to think my taxes go towards 1/10th or so of a tank of fuel for one of them.
oh. so you saw them ?? cause when i looked outside that day i didnt see them butthey were definately heard,
