I don't think there is anything wrong w/ clubs/teams, etc... its nothing more then a group of cars rocking logos from their shop of choice.
There are crews in race, drfit, show, etc.. its nothing more than putting a name to a group of friends. Now some obviously put stipulations on getting into their clubs b/c they want to represent their name w/ a certain status. I don't think there is anything wrong w/ that either... its like the NBA draft, why pick cheap shitty players when you can have #1 draft pick.
There are incentives to being in clubs, recognition, hookups, coverage, contacts, etc...
The scene has definately changed but i like seeing that some clubs are chaning w/ the times... example: ECI now has a performance side to their club; which is cool b/c they can represent both sides. I know i would rather look at a drag car than a show car, but hey everyone likes different things.

and thats exactly why i put it like "that". It's a given that modifying a car is not necessary but we do it anyways. And it should go without saying that joining a car club is not necessary but some people do it anyways for your own personal reasons, probably mainly because you like it and there's nothing wrong with that. We all have our own opinions on what we wanna do with our car and in life as a whole. Now some just feel that they should endeavor on their own but stillOriginally Posted by XLR8NMr2

I can vouch for you on this one. I've never really understood them much either, but I think a lot of them have members who are into show. When it comes to building a car show is always the last thing on my mind, probably why I don't care if my car is ugly. I can understand the whole, make friends, have friends with you at shows concept, cause when I went with Elite to HIN Orlando I had a blast, without even knowing every one there all that well.
As far as actual car clubs go, I tried to get into a local car club called intense illusions about 3 years ago when I had my Sentra. I was broke and just wanted to hang out with my friends Josh and Phong when they went to meets, considering they were the people I was probably hanging out with anyway.
My cars have always preformed better than they look, and until I come across a car "club" that holds "all go, no show" in as high esteem as I do, I think I'll be riding solo.

without car shows probably 85% of the people on this board would not be into cars. im sorry but i still remember seeing kaila yu on the front page of import tuner and i was hooked. nice car+grls=pride. saying whats the point of having car shows is like saying whats the point of having the super bowl, it's everyone coming out and showing what they have and what their proud of, and im sure most of us are damn proud of our cars.

I agree with Paul and Brett.
You guys that don't like the "team" concept are usually NOT a member of any team, so I understand not getting it. It follows suit. The problem is that like Brett mentioned it is too often that one side bashes the other rather than simply chalk it up to "that's what THEY are into...good for them".
I personally have a daily driver that also shows. So I can kind of understand part of the argument. That's what I wanted and that's what I had built. Not everyone is into that. Some people are the extreme of either all go or all show. Good for them. Sometimes they do have a very nice car either way. Sometimes they have a POS that runs like a scalded dog or they have a POS that looks like it was built down off Buford Hwy somewhere.
I understand the crappy judging at shows like HIN where sometimes the judges award people for gawdiness rather than tastefulness. I totally agree with bad taste getting rewarded being gay. Problem is that most of us don't judge car shows, so we have to suck it up and move on. We can't blame the guy that got the trophy. We have to blame the cross eyed and blind judges for that.
Besides, I know lots of "clubs" that merely meet and invite other people all the time....members AND non-members. Just hanging out and talking car stuff. Not every "club" has to be this secret society with the paddles and branding logos in your arm types. Most are actually pretty laid back and enjoy talking to everyone, not just the members.

It's kinda like a fraternity where you're just paying for drinking buddies. I understand the benefits but a majority of the people into the tuning aspect of cars run solo...i have no desire to be in a club but 7 days a week i can still hang out with tons of car people if i choose. Then if i want to be in a car show i can pay the entrance fee and go without having someone else hold my hand the entire way. It seems to be an image thing....i'm not into it to impress people, it's just fun to build up & fabricate something yourself and go run the shit out of it.Originally Posted by estis fatuus

1) Why not look good... i don't know a car that doesn't look better lowered w/ wheels, maybe a kit, some new paint, etc...
2) Companys are still spending more money on the show scene than any other. It is easier to gain sponsorships for show cars b/c of the amount of attention they get

Yes, there are clubs that have a ton of requirements and crap you have to do in order to be in it. The vast majority however is much like a bunch of friends that like to go to hang out together. If it's a show, good. If it's at someone's house, good. If it's on some parking lot somewhere, good too.
Point is that you guys are making a stereotypical judgement call on what a club is and isn't. Yes, there are gay ass clubs that require all kinds of things from their members and only the top guys see any of the "benefits" that come around. That's gay to me too. But as someone who's done both sides of the coin, I don't see how yall can stereotype ALL clubs as nothing more than some drunken frat house full of immature kids. Not every club is like that. As a matter of fact, 90% of them are not like that at all. Some of the top "teams" recruit their members by merely walking up to someone that is "solo" and saying, "hey, I like how you modded your car....wanna hang out with us?" (In a less than gay voice of course....
). What's so wrong with that?
I know plenty of "GO" guys that have their buddies hang out with them at the track all the time. They meet up at the track and work on their cars and race and have a good time. The only difference is that they don't put a name on their car and call themselves a team. All the actions are the same, just no stickers. How's that any different?
There are plenty of "race" guys that do exactly that, so why the hate on the guys that do the same thing on the other side of the fence? Same shit different color if you ask me. What's the problem?

People like to form teams because its the nature of competition.

i think Clube are a good idea, they atract events

I know our team isnt no Frat Boy BS, thats for sure. People just want to bash what they dont know or understand. Many teams take this game serious, I know teams like what I am in, ECI, Allstars take the show side very serious, and at the same time give the people who choose other routes the full respect they want for thier work, but again, I cant see why people cant seem to get over the stereo types for our side and just appreciate what we do like we appreciate the work on the all go cars.Originally Posted by Jaimecbr900

I fully respect the time and energy anyone puts into their own cars, whether it be for show or go but the last couple years it's seems more and more people are leaning towards performance & automotive events...grip, drift, and drag over the show scene. The hybrid events are where it's at, it's reaches out and grabs the attention of everyone.Originally Posted by Brett
Personally I wouldn't have $20k+ into a Honda unless it could run [road track] lap times with just about any other car out there....but then i like car audio, electronics, and just about any other gadget but there is a point where it starts taking away from the performance & handling....too much weight and it's no longer practical. 35lb 19" wheels on a honda is not practical to me and neither is lowering a car anymore than a few inches...it has negative effects on the handling. I like the atmostphere at shows though, just not everything that is there.

speaking of practical what is the point of the metal on your front bumper??? snow plow, solor panel, new light weight racing alloy, etc...Originally Posted by speedminded
see here is my point practical is always in the eyes of the beholder, even performance guys have stupid shit on their cars... seriously why do performance guys need decals, carbon fiber hoods that don't weigh less then stock, racing seats w/ harness but no roll cage, steering wheels that detach, etc etc etc... seriously practical can go both ways. nothing is practical in the tuning scene.
Practical is buying a car and leaving it stock :: Tuning is make practical better looks, sounds, performance

you want my [rant] WTF is up w/ drifting? seriously it has to be the gayest competition car sport to me... what is the excitement of watching someone burn tires? now yes it is a competitive sport not a spectator sport, but i've been in drift cars before, i would rather be doing a mountain run or street racing then doing that... i think i would have more of a liking for it is if it was on more of a real road course and not based out of parking lots... like drifting on a mountain side, like in japan... thats cool. you fuck up you die!!!

car clubs are wack, car shows are wack.. personal preference and experience though.
Car clubs turn into politics QUICK. I will never join a car club again.
My boys are my boys and Im sure I will have fun without no damn sticker on my car.
I learned alot of being in a car club and Car shows.
Some car clubs turn into or think is a fucking Business. Fuck that shit.
If you like that car show stuff .. word of advice.. you do not need a club to get you no where... learn the ropes of the game.. car shows are nothing but games.
Learn how to carry yourself at shows and how you talk to people is a key.
But most important, have a hot car, not a piece of shit...
Best feeling sometimes is roll up to a car show, SOLO and Take home a Best of show....

Downforce and looks, it's something differant that i fabricated myself (not a mass produced bodykit piece that anyone can just go out and buy) and provides enough downforce in the front that seems to promote a decent oversteer. The spoiler is aluminum with aluminum rivets...doubt it even weighs 1/2 a lb. yet the splitter is heavier than i would like but is really solid...plus most of the weight is 3.5 to 4" off the ground. You're right though, to some people that would not be practical.Originally Posted by admin
My exhaust is not practical, it's too freakin loud and probably kills my torque (at least the topend) but i'll continue running like it is until i can get what i want, $884 Fujitsubo RM01a.
Decals are ridiculous unless that company is giving you something in exchange for the advertisement. I've always had Raceworks on my valve cover because that company has done so much for me, even though I work & crew for them and have earned most of it they've still given me alot and I stand behind what they do 100%. I recently put decals for another shop on the exterior of my car, AutoFab Motorsports...haven't decided if i want to keep them on there but i like the owners, their outlook & ambition, and i see alot of potential in what they do...i've also been offered access to another shop and services i can't get anywhere else so i chose to return the favor and promote them. If they can help me get the ball rolling on a few things i have been working on then i'll help them by referring people and giving them more business.

problem with import car shows are 95% of the cars are slow turds with gaudy bodykits. I like going to some of the old muscle car shows and seeing some of the restored cars. The amount of work that goes into restoring some of those cars is nothing compared to slapping some gay body kit, paint, big wheels, lambo doors or whatever on some 17 second compact car.
And car clubs are pretty much gay for the most part.

Well didn't see that coming. Glad I wasn't the only person who thought that.Originally Posted by Julio
And Windsor, I agree totally with that. I'll go to a classic car show any day. Those are super clean though. Most people make them all original with only factory upgrades with the craziest thing on them is what color paint they pick.
