    Default Car Clubs unnecessary?

Anybody think that Car Clubs are unnecessary? I mean really can't you guys just hang out?

I have friends and we're all into cars but we dont' have stickers to distinguish that and that doesnt bother us.

I mean if you are in a car club dont be upset. i just don't understand them.

The bond, the meets.....blah blah you could just do all that without a "club" couldnt you?

Sometimes i feel that way now. I remember when 1/4 mile was just a bunch of us hanging together and going to meets and races. Before we got really established and started inviting in new people.

I dont see what is wrong with the car club concept. Granted I am in one so I guess thats why...LOL

But to me I have more fun at shows when I am in a team, We do things togther, Show togther, The friendships and bonds that are made cant be explained. To me clubs/Teams help build the show scene. The show scene is much different now then the days we had many clubs around the area, things have died way down. The rivalry between teams is always fun, it helps people within the teams strive to build bigger and better cars to compete with eachother and other teams. If you are not in one I and dont see why they are around, you wouldnt get it I guess.

I have been on both sides of the game though, I started and ran a team for 3.5 years and then went solo for 1 season and now am in Elite and having a blast. Some of my best time have been with a teams.

I guess thats why. I went to car shows and showed my car for the hell of it. Its not a show car though. I got 3rd place Nissan Wild at a Z car of ATL meet with my s14 because it had a swap and bigger turbo. lol

I brought my g20 to tunerfest (hailfest) last year and honestly, 75% of the cars there were tasteless, over done, and ruined most of the time.

I looked around thinking you have to have a crazy body kit to win anything, if if its ugly, you get points for that. I would have probably lost point for the oil cooler and no system.

I don't know I may have a different idea of a car club if there was one not around the show scene and into clean and simple but even then, why do you need a name to associate with? I think your car should speak for itself.

I agree with Paul and Brett.

You guys that don't like the "team" concept are usually NOT a member of any team, so I understand not getting it. It follows suit. The problem is that like Brett mentioned it is too often that one side bashes the other rather than simply chalk it up to "that's what THEY are into...good for them".

I personally have a daily driver that also shows. So I can kind of understand part of the argument. That's what I wanted and that's what I had built. Not everyone is into that. Some people are the extreme of either all go or all show. Good for them. Sometimes they do have a very nice car either way. Sometimes they have a POS that runs like a scalded dog or they have a POS that looks like it was built down off Buford Hwy somewhere.

I understand the crappy judging at shows like HIN where sometimes the judges award people for gawdiness rather than tastefulness. I totally agree with bad taste getting rewarded being gay. Problem is that most of us don't judge car shows, so we have to suck it up and move on. We can't blame the guy that got the trophy. We have to blame the cross eyed and blind judges for that.

Besides, I know lots of "clubs" that merely meet and invite other people all the time....members AND non-members. Just hanging out and talking car stuff. Not every "club" has to be this secret society with the paddles and branding logos in your arm types. Most are actually pretty laid back and enjoy talking to everyone, not just the members.

yeah. you can all just hang out.

a club is about representing the scene though. its like.. being in a club helps orgainze it all.

yeah 1/4 tires to keep everyone buying mods and everything. we had it set up like that. but with so many down cars now, its hard. but yeah we still hang with each other cuz i have been cool with most those guys before i could even drive.

but yeah i will just stick to hanging with friends.

no car clubs arent really unnessacry. Just consider the scene as one big game and in that game you have differnt team. Now in the team the players all work togeather for a common goal or ambiton. So they work togeather as a team to reach that goal whatever it may be. I dont think car clubs are unecessary. they have been around for probaly just as long as people have been modifying cars.

Like for instance theres differnt race teams or crews across the globe.

but i can identify with race teams. because its about a race. whoever finishes the line first. clear cut. build a car. win the race

    Car shows:
whoever has the nastiest paint color, nissan front ended honda, blah blah wins. why?

Just build your car the way you want to though i guess is the difference. I could care less what the next guy has. I'm not competing with him that way.

you took the words right out my mouth also you can think it is a direct reflection shown of yours/your teams automotive caliber and and passion for the autmotive scene. wether you be a show team "elite" or a street team "1/4" or a mix of both "xlr8shen" you and your team stride to be known and your teams named carried with respect.

Car clubs remind me of F&F, goto the new club forums and just look at some of those clubs... Just listening to them is pathetic.."I be rolling with such an such, and we be family" tell me thats not F&F right there!!

Im for sure not in to the car show scene, I think it is pointless, cause most of the cars are way out of hand now. A car is made to go, not to sit! I know most of you are prolly like..."well I drive mine a lot" well great, but there are plenty out there that just let them sit in a show and sit in the garage!

I was a Bristol last year for the nopi race and I seen a sweet vette in the car show(some of you mighta seen it) the thing was spotless and built very well... Full cage, racing seat(1), supercharged, CCW track setup(wheels)
And we asked this dude(old guy) if he had any times on it at the strip...he said nope, then we said what tracks(road course's) have you been to? He said this thing is all show!
I mean come on....that to me is pointless!

But the point is a cage, track wheels, and a blower dont mean shit if it doesnt roll.

That stuff is intimidating because of what it CAN do when used. Not sitting in a parking lot.

Building a show car doesnt make sense to me with TVs and Playstations. Build a box, a little kids bedroom if you want and put it in a parking lot if you want to show all the electronics you have.

Exactly. I think if your car looks good and is fast you dont have to band together to make a team. Especially if you are the Michael Jordon and there are a bunch of fuck ups on the "team".

This is when the sport gets divided. The lack of respect for what people choose to do. If we build a show car, and WE decide not to drive it everyday, how is that wrong, we spend good money to get it the way we look, and driving it all the time, will fuck that up, with rick chips, door dings, etc. I drove mine daily for 5 years now mine sits unless I drive it to a meet or show, But ya know what, Thats MY choice. You dont ever see show people bashing anyother side of this car scene, yet its always everyone else who shows a lack of respect to show people, But yer we are all supposed to be in this for the same thing, The passion for cars.

I used to be in a club. I had friends that were into cars, but either weren't motivated to stay with it, or didn't have the money to do much. Just talking about cars gets old. They would of never showed, or went to the track. So I joined a club that was actually doing things. I formed a lot of friendships (a couple really good ones). After a while it wasn't fun anymore, it was too structured. I've gotten older, and realize I'd rather take my mod money to get a nicer, faster, more comfortable car that I can use everyday. Something that I don't have to worry about being stolen, and something that I can sell with ease when I'm ready for another.

I only go to pretty much one main show, and I usually take first place in my class, and thats Nopi Nationals, but other than that, they dont have a class for my car, and if they do, they toss me in with the damn J-bodies.

and also teams may help you get recongized quicker by sponserships, magazines, and car shows like alot of people know cars just by the team their in. like "oh yeah thats that one mr2 in xlr8shen" or "yeah man that elite eclipse is bad ass" but you wouldnt know which car i was talkin about unless i said the team name

its all about representation, some people like the feeling they get by the need to represent or be about something.

    All about the respect huh?

Ok. We just don't see cars the same way.

    Well thanks for the insight.

    Brilliant.

The prefix Un means not or the absense. As in the the absense of necessity.

and thats exactly why i put it like "that". It's a given that modifying a car is not necessary but we do it anyways. And it should go without saying that joining a car club is not necessary but some people do it anyways for your own personal reasons, probably mainly because you like it and there's nothing wrong with that. We all have our own opinions on what we wanna do with our car and in life as a whole. Now some just feel that they should endeavor on their own but still
socialize with other people on the same path to "finished car nirvana".

I got tired of shows because of the amount of sitting and doing nothing, and the amount of people that just dont respect your ride.

I don't think there is anything wrong w/ clubs/teams, etc... its nothing more then a group of cars rocking logos from their shop of choice.

There are crews in race, drfit, show, etc.. its nothing more than putting a name to a group of friends. Now some obviously put stipulations on getting into their clubs b/c they want to represent their name w/ a certain status. I don't think there is anything wrong w/ that either... its like the NBA draft, why pick cheap shitty players when you can have #1 draft pick.

There are incentives to being in clubs, recognition, hookups, coverage, contacts, etc...

The scene has definately changed but i like seeing that some clubs are chaning w/ the times... example: ECI now has a performance side to their club; which is cool b/c they can represent both sides. I know i would rather look at a drag car than a show car, but hey everyone likes different things.

TWISTED KONCPTZ or whatever is not a shop. 98% are not shops.
