my question is is how do they do it - I mean its safe to assume the car has an alarm right? That usually gets bystanders attention. So that means there HAS to be witnesses.

I know the camera's in Best Buy show a record of everyone using a credit/debit card - so maybe have the police run through those people in case any witnessed anything?
