I guess that is where my thinking comes in that they deserve "extra". Overall it's a circle.

We as Americans are a generous lot, however... I personally will give "extra" to the folks that do their job with honor and dignity not expecting something in return. Whether it be a soldier or a waitress.

It's the "not deserving" attitude that makes them deserving.
