Default salvage on autocheck, but not on title...

So i did an autocheck on my car just for shits and giggles, and it turns out that the car was considered salvage at one point in its life.
Here is the kicker. The title does not say salvage, rebuilt or anything. It's a clean title. I bought it from a buddy in VA and i live in FL.
I had no problems what so ever getting the car registered, I didn't have to do any sort of inspection...
The previous owner is a good friend of mine and he had no idea that it was salvage either and he said he had no problems registering it in VA.
VA has a gay multipoint inspection in order to register your car too.
So anybody know what the deal is here?
    Could autocheck be wrong?

Title could have been "washed" prior to your friend owning it.

Or Typo. If there was no issues with registration... weird indeed.
