Default Importing Cars to the US Questions?

Ok I got a company who can import me a car from Japan to the US for cheap, the only thing is that I want to know if I have to legalize it here in the US. I want to get the car and use it for track use only but need to know what I have to do to it before I ship it over to make sure customs knows its a track vehicle. I have talked to some people and they said take off all parts that bolt on (fenders, trunk, doors, ect...) who customs let this car come through as a PARTS ONLY/ TRACK CAR? Also anyone know the import fee I would have to pay or the dacking fee or any other fees I would have to pay?

    The cars a 2000 GT-R for $45,000 +$1,200 shipping.

If I buy this I will be flying to Japan to look at it personally to make sure its all good and maks it to the ship. I just need to know all the legal things first, because the last think I would want to do is get the car here to the US and have to pay another $20,000 for importing fees and have the US DOT take the car and legalize it, I dont need it legalized, I just want a RARE car to make into a track/drift/drag car, dont know which one. THANKS

I am just trying to get the car over here legally, but not legalize it. The last thing I need is for the US DOT to take the car away from me for not importing it the right way. I was also looking at some R33 GT-r V-Specs from $15-20,000 I probably just fly over to Japan WHEN i finally decided to get one and pick the car out, after I drive it. This importing probably wont happen for a year but I just wanted to get a start on getting the information. THANKS

you have to pull the engine in order for it to come as a parts car. it can be sitting right next to the car just as long as its not in it. also your going to want to pull the gas tank out over there and ship it seperately cause the first thing they do in customs is poke holes in the gas tank.
If it doesn't fit force it. If it breaks it was meant to be upgraded!
If it doesn't break you wern't driving hard enough!

That's what you should be paying for a legalized stock one from motorrex that someone is tired of owning... I think Trihn payed 45K or so for his, and it was legal to drive in the us.

that's way too much to pay. You could get a really nice one for like 15K and spend 5K doing all the stuff you want to it... but still is a shit ton of money you cant legally drive on teh street here.

And you know if you try to fool the cops by putting a 240 vin on it and you get caught they can impound the car... permenantly.

How are you going to get caught if everything matches? Color, trim, etc.

Dude... nothing matches everywhere. People are smarter than you think.. especially when you make them mad by going around their rules.

Ask yourself this, is that a $46000 gamble you'd be willing to take?

I know the answer, but then again I'm a homeowner who's cars are payed for,so maybe I'm a little brighter than some in that aspect.

so i guess, When you do an engine swap, Front end swap, Paint a car a different color, adn change a helluva lotta parts out, (vin number isnt everywhere is it?)
    Then you are still legal?
However, in all honesty, Id do the whole take the engine out, cut it in two parts, send home, reassemble with a picture history of doing it, and register as a kit car. Its been done, and deff works

autocross, shows, track days. I could eventually legalize it, but when I could spend half the money for the same car i'd rather spend less. Plus my intentions for the car were to build it for the track....dont know if it should be drag, auto-x, or just like Road Atlants stuff, but I guess I have time to think

If you look at the link i gave you, there is an r34 for 50.000

But if you spend 46,000 on a car that you cant drive, you are the biggest idiot ive ever seen.

Then you have to invest in a 1-2,000 dollar trailer
a vehicle to tow if you dont have it

it goes on and on, that has got to be the worst investment ive ever heard of

i dont want the RB25 motor though, I would MUCH rather build a twin turbo RB26 motor, also:

    TRAILER--- Got it
    VAN------- Got it

Ive been thinking of getting a Skyline for a LONG TIME. Ever since I saw the R33 I knew it was THE CAR I HAD TO HAVE. But why settle for a R33, I see them here and there in GA, I want something one of a kind. I have auctually only seen 1 R34 in person and it wasnt a V-Spec. If I am going to "throw away" money I better get exactly what I want. I mean who else would give there left nut to just drive a R34 GT-R V-Spec II, let alone onw one?

Think if it like this. Me buying this car will be llike an old man buying a Porsche 911 TT, it will be driven, but never to its most full potential. Most Old me drive those $120,000 cars like saturns, I just wont drive mine on the street, but believe me, it will be driven HARD!

ruiner drives his car...everyone with a porsche 911, m3, Lotus, etc on base drives them everyday

    How about a better comparison
Buy a 50,000 car and burn it to the ground. You jsut wasted it, and thats what you are doing. YOu will NEVER make any money off of it, you wont make it legal, and one day your gonna drive it on the road nad get busted, it happens.

You just honestly sound like a 15 yr old saying hes gonna import a skyline cause they are cool. If you really had the cash, youd pony up and buy a legal one, since you can just waste 46,000 dollars.

FIRST:I wouldnt every buy a car to make money first of all, cars arent even anything close to an investment, they are just a waste of money, but if I am going to go all out and build a car for the track why use something other than the best? I mean would you race a mini with the F-1's? No.
SECOND: I wouldnt drive the car on the street. I know SO many people who have cars that arent legal and they have been tempted to drive it on the streets, but have they? Maybe some but they are stupid. I have been fucked by the law many times, I have paid them OVER $10,000 in speeding fines, wreckless driving fines, and just other stuid shit, and I am not lying on the amount. YES, the shit I did when I was younger was stupid, but its out of me now and I am not tempted by the little stupid things in life anymore, why chance loosing a near $50K car for one simple joy rid? Thats all I would have to ask myself and I wouldnt even think about driving it.
FINALLY: "WASTE" "waste" "waste", this is all I am hearing form you, so when someone builds a drag car thats not street legal, its a waste? So when these 750 NON STREET LEGAL civic go down the track at near 9 second 1/4 it was all a waste, no. I want something that I can build to show what I have learned and what I can do. This car isnt an investment, its going to be a way of showing everyone what can be done. Maybe something will come from it, maybe a sponser, maybe a few bucks here and there, but I am not looking to make anything from this car. Ya I could probably build a Silvia with a RB26DETT for cheaper, ya I could probably buy a R34 for MOTOREX for $98,000 and it be street legal, but why? I would like a R34 V-Spec II, I dont have $98K but I could get $46K. Lets say I spend another 20-30K building it, thats under $80K still less than the MOTOREX one and it would be a bad ass drag car, or a extreme auto-x car.
Talk to anyone who builds cars with their own money, its normally not to make money, its normally not to "waste money" it going to be to prove to everyone what can be done. I never thought that a civic could run 9's while still looking well street legal. Now I want to try something out, let me "waste money" like Peter did at ISP i guess. Ya he started with a cheaper car, but you get what you pay for, I will be getting a TT AWD BEAUTY.
