    Default Army Friends

I just recently found a good buddy from School and growing up with on Face book.
I haven't seen or talked to him since high school.
He was talking to me on IM from his lap top in Afghanistan on his free time.
It was nice talking but i tell you what i don't think i could ever do what those ppl have to deal with.
It has to be scary and he just got there this month and says its a bitch to get any sleep with bombs, shooting, raids and 120F temperatures in tents.
I tried to join when i turned 18 but my big ass was to fat. I solute and honor all those who are fighting for us and doing the world justice. He says its kinda boring but i told him isn't that a good and safe thing being bored in a country who hates you...

Your friend is a Liar. There is no where in Afghanistan that is constantly being bombarded, shot at, and raided enough to prevent getting a solid 8 hours of sleep a night. But it is hot out.
Tell him to quit being a pussy.

    I agree.

I was there in 03-04 and the only part of his story that is true is the heat, especially the part about being bombarded and raided. The worst places when I was there were A-Bad and J-Bad and at the worst they might get 3 or 4 unaimed rockets hit in the general area of the FOB in a night, but for the other 360 days in the year they only got hit with a random rocket every few nights.

Orgun-E, Salerno, and Bohemian were all far quieter. Kandahar, Kabul, and Bagram were more like garrison than anything else.

I seriously doubt he is staying in a tent either, but even if he is they have AC units that work better than any unit you will find hooked up to a house.

Last rotation in the Korengal we were attacked daily. Some days numerous times each day (33 TICs in a day one time), so, yes, there are still places that do get attacked like that. But a Soldier can and will get sleep whenever possible. I know first hand. Yes, there are still tents there also, yes, I know first hand, I stayed in a tent and a buddy of mine is also in a tent, time now. There's alot of guys that make things sound tougher than they are, but there are still places like that.

I am also glad we are no longer in the Korengal Valley. A-Bad and J-Bad weren't that bad last rotation either, but still sucked my AO was N2KL. They weren't great but weren't terrible, Konar Province sucked most though. I am in Iraq now and glad to be, this place even makes Bagram seem like where I was in Afghanistan, LOL....ah yes, the good life, not really but better than where I was....

By the way, there's a movie coming out you may see me in, National Geographics "Restrepo," coming to a theater near you......
