Default okay, back from my hiatus....

back from the field, it was cold, walked/patroled roughly 40+ miles, visibilty at night was low, got like 12hrs of sleep in 4 days, I have so many layers of camo paint that it wont wash off, had so many firefights it wasnt even funny, carried the SAW for awhile (while fun as hell to fire, not fun carrying with all ammo) on the final round I ended up going rambo and killing half a company of OPFOR....(not really rambo, but they were stupid and I was able to keep them down while they were in the open)

anyways, I have lots of shit that's pretty cool to tell you guys, but I'm dead tired and gonna get some shut eye

Sorry....I'm in ARMY ROTC and US Reservist, and we had field training this past few days on squad tactics, and terrain modeling, and day/night nav....

it was fucking cold.....we'd all be sweating when it was like 40degrees out at night....soaked from head to toe with sweat.

let me define some things for those who dont know...
the SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon) or M249

OPFOR is Opposing Force, so it's the "bad guys" that roam around that looking to kill you

...I'll fill in you guys on more once I get out of my next two classes.

here is the more descriptive details...

    We were
deep in the woods, it was so quiet...you'd hear all sorts of sounds
and we had to have noise and light discipline, so that means you are
pretty much quiet and stay off your flashlight (red lens) as much as
possible...so if you were going down a ravine or climbing up washouts,
you couldnt see where you were going and alot of people fell or took
hard falls. I was the RTO (Radio guy) so I had to carry around the
radio and always run up to the squad leader if anything came over the
line....I also got to carry the M249 SAW (heavy machine gun) and holy
shit! that thing was fun as hell....it just really sucks carrying it
and the ammo....but I traded back for my m16 because I was more lethal
with that one anyways. We would have to keep moving to find the OPFOR
and sometimes they would attack us in the middle of the night or in
the wee hours of the morning, so it was a constant battle all the
time. On the last day, we lost our support team, they were attacked
with motars and AT4's...so it was only down to our squad to finish (5
people) We found a abandoned bunker, and held up there, because we
were low on ammo and because the last transmission I had with Variable
(TOC) I was told that the OPFOR that was closing in on us was
roughly 3 times our size with an assortment of heavy machine guns,
light assault rifles, and mixed explosives. So with only 5 of us, the
squad leader and another man got into the bunker and set up the M249
and we had one more guy to the left of the bunker behind some fallen
trees. I also had the idea to take some of the M249's ammo and
dispurse it amongest us so that we would have more. Me and Kot decided
that we had to lure the OPFOR to our "kill zone" of the bunker (the
position of the M249) so we headed north of the bunker and looked to
make contact with them....well, we saw them and both opened fire and
ran back, but kept slowing down every now and then so they would stay
on our tail.... well, I got on the radio and radioed to my squad
leader that they were on us and we were hauling ass in...we ran past
the bunker about 50 meters and just held back in thick brush. Well, it
was maybe like 4 mins after we made it back when we heard the SAW open
up and saw that they popped smoke.....they held them back for about
20mins but when the SAW jammed, it was pretty much over....they had
killed two and the squad leader was captured. Well, at that point, me
and Kot popped up and unloaded about 2 clips on them because they were
all in the open searching the hardball road and our bunker because I
think they thought killed us all, well Kot got killed and I fell too
and I think they thought they killed me, but I crawled for about 50
meters around and popped back up and opened fire on 2 of them that
were standing in the road....I hauled ass 200 meters around our bunker
area and ended up crossing the road again and basically ended up at
their original attack point on our bunker...I popped up and took out 3
more that were facing the bunker and then all of a sudden I heard the
SAW firing again and then lots of gunfire, so I was sure they took the
SAW and used it....well, I kept hearing it jam after about 50rnds or
so, so I waited the next time around when it stopped firing and jumped
up and charged where I heard it coming from and opened fire.....well,
it turned out it was my squad leader...he had escaped when me and Kot
began our suprise attack and I didnt know it, but I opened fire on
him and it was too late, so I killed him, and when I did that, the
last 3 OPFOR were hiding in the bunker and took me out....so it was
pretty crazy....we made our last stand and took our 94% of their
platoon....my evaluator gave me high remarks on my tactics and
    movements.

so all in all...it wasnt too bad....it was just cold and your body starts hurting after carrying all that gear over rough terrain for 18-19+ hours throughout the day.

What were you doing there? We were by the RTB, we ran into Auburn, Georgia Military College, and Mercer ROTC cadets out there, I also stole some water from Auburn's water refill point ...haha, I saw a chem light and walked over to it only to find two water cans...and my camelbak was getting a lil light...so you know...haha

and you know you are dead because you have evaluators running around with you and placed all over the place the area watching, and if they see you are in direct area of fire or if you let's say cross a open field and someone fires at you, then you are pretty much dead....the blanks are really just for noise factor....but it's still fun going nuts on burst with the m16a2 and going full out on the SAW.
