If you are overeducated they are in fear you will take management position, or underqualified usually means they wont give you a chance at all.

    Sucks.....

Hospitals won't hire you if you dont have 1-3 years experience in the exact department/position you are applying for, but how are you to ever gain experience, if no one will hire you?

Well, that kinda defeats the purpose somewhat...interning for a desk job....probably not worth the $9/hr.

Now, If I was interning as a new lawyer or doctor, then yes, internship worth it.

Oh...I thought you meant a doctor since you said hospital. Those desk jobs are hard to get. If you start off as a receptionist at a small doctor's office, then that's usually what they consider as "experience". I have about 6 months of that kind of experience, but there's no desk jobs available at any of the nearby hospitals

It is pretty ridiculous. I can't even get a response from potential employers. The jobs in my field of study (Spanish) require experience to be considered for the position. How can I get experience if I can't get a job. Basically, my degree is useless. WTF?!

That is exactly what pisses me off. They even do that with the easiest jobs. Who better than the employer to show you how they want it done?

my sister and i were talking about that the other day...who is suppose to give you experience if YOU wont...we have to learn somewhere..which pisses me the hell off too. i want to venture into another part of civil engineering, but as gay as employers are, they dont want to help you learn, makes no sense

Let me get this straight, you actually studied SPANISH and wonder why you cant find a job? In case you havent noticed, finding someone in the US that can speak spanish is about as hard as finding someone that speaks english.

Why should they train someone when there are a thousand people in the same field that already have the experience they want? With as bad as the job market is right now, they know they wont have to pay them any more and for at least the first however long, depending on the exact job, they will get a lot more production.

Most employers want a candidate that is competent in the written language as well as the spoken language. That's why many linguist and translator jobs require a degree in spanish.

I guess its just every place I have lived then. Spanish speaking people have always been a dime a dozen (or hour depending on what you need).

On a serious note. I have applied at almost every where in Hall county with no luck. Even after calling them several times a week. Nothing is hiring unless you have a degree and want to make the wage of someone who doesn't even have a G.E.D.. Hell, my cousin got lucky tho. No G.E.D., no college, dropped out in 9th grade. Now he works for Fielddale as a 3rd shift maintenance supervisor/manager making around 35-58k a year.

He's doing a great job if I say so myself. Ohio for one, many of those that I know that are un-educated or under-educated are finding work compared to 6months ago. I'm also finding more opportunities myself in my field of work, expecially compared to last year. This is just the first quarter. And he's only been in position for what, barely a year?

I had a bitch tonight that bitched about her job at Mellow Mushroom. My friend ordered a Coke and that was it. It literally took 30 mins to get him that drink, no joke. So I left a paper saying " Here is a Tip: Get a different fucking job bitch! It doesn't take 30 mins for you to bring out a drink, and then give menus. Please let someone who is capable to do your job have....like me!"

if you are getting told you have too much experience after an interview..... your fucking up.....

too much or too little experience is a easy way to say.... we dont like you.... period..

my advice is to shut the fuck up in the interview...

someone who always has something to say about a topic or gives opinions about a interview question other than company policy gets labeled as a person who will not follow procedure...

you might be so eager to make a good impression your going over bored with your answers, talking yourself up, or making yourself look cocky...in a bad way.

generally an interview should be quick and to the point unless its a panel interview.... where you want to show intelligence across the table to all involved.

    for my last job.....

    i had a 3 minute..... 3 question interview..

guy asked me.... what projects have you worked on..... i ONLY named them..

guy asked me.... whats quality mean to you..... i said quality is right the first time everytime.

guy asked me.... what can you bring to the table and offer this company.... (knowing the buisness and job that im applying for) i responded i will do such and such (the worst job there is to do in my field) for 9 hours a day everyday if need be.

guy say well....... thats about it....interview over

5 minutes later the secretary says your hired and i get my per diem check and im outa there.

thats what people are looking for..... these days...

with that theory then what is the purpose of 'waisting' your time going to get extra education? you would be better off NOT going to school if they want experience...you would be better off looking for internships when you graduate high school opposed to going to a univeristy or a technical college to 'further your education' and 'enhance the opportunity' to 'advance' in this lame ass world.

that has crossed my mind as well, but there should be something against that, as many people out there looking for jobs, they should just hire and when that person leaves, then let them go and go through the list of applicants that you've gotten in the past and call them in to for an interview, know what i mean, but dont just cut the person just for the thought of they will leave. you know how many people when i was in high school working at a grocery store just left just to go to another grocery store, same principle, a person is not going to stay at a job JUST because they are in school, etc....again BULLSHIT

I meet a lot of people every week at my job that are getting certified in microsoft programs and apparently from what I hear if you want to make the big bucks you can sign up to be a contractor over in Iraq and you can pull a quarter mill easy in one year. The only problem is that there is a chance that you might be shipped into the worst part and it could be dangerous, but I met a lady that has been doing it for 5 years and she told me she has never even seen one bullet fired and never felt her safety threatened once!
