On a serious note I'm hoping everyone we know is safe and well and, well, if they aren't that they died quickly and painlessly.

On another serious note I think Haiti would benefit from a huge purge of about 75% of its population. The place has too many damned people. And if the corrupt politicians were amongst that 50% then all the better.

All the non-profits and charities and volunteers who wish can go there.

The only tax dollars I want spent are those for the Coast Guard ensuring mass migration to our shores doesn't happen.

I really like the work our govt has done in Haiti. Yes, that is a sarcastic comment.

Sometime ago I posted a comment about my standing next to a food line in the hinterland of the central plateau of Haiti, and the Haitian that was working with me looking disgustedly at the people in line to receive their tins of US-marked rice and oil and etc. He told me that thanks to this "help", the people of the area no longer bothered to even try and grow food. Why should they? The US was gonna give it to them if they would just stand in the line. And now the area had over two years since people had attempted to grow food there, and he was wondering how much longer a timeline would be necessary until people simply forgot how, until the logistics system for supporting crops was no longer in existence, etc. He commented a whole lot more, but that was the central point.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of our CA programs. Maybe they are fucked from the onset due to politicians changing the mission. Maybe the CA people that have dedicated their lives to this field should be left to decide how to implement programs. Maybe the whole concept is fucked and has no merit. I dunno. I just know that I could give a shit less about sending money to Haiti to help them rebuild....

The irony is, the US is often times responsible for helping keep 3rd world countries impoverished. Then we act like we're "Big Brother" when we send Red Cross to help after a natural disaster.

Why is that our concern in the first place? MANY countries live below the poverty line. So we are fucked up as a people because we help other nations when we can and most definitely during a time of crisis... but not all the time? Well shit, by that logic we are devils! Theres tribes in the rain forests that don't have electricity! Why arnt we helping them! Fucking Americans! What about all the starving kids in Africa? Seriously. It sucks that this natural disaster has taken so many lives. At the end of the day, "thats life." Soon there will be another tsunami, another earthquake, another Flava of Love rerun, another tornado, or another hurricane that will kill more people. And we will be there again, I'm sure, distributing aid, enhancing our image in the eyes of our haters and GIVING GIVING GIVING... while people at home (like you) still complain that we arnt doing enough. When, oddly enough, we are not OBLIGATED to do anything in the first place.

The only differences between 3rd world countries and us is that our economy is strong enough to have a middle class, and because of that corruption is much more subtle here than it is in other areas.

The REASON we have such a strong economy and so much power, is because we purposely keep everyone else under our foot....so that makes us wonderful?

Imagine our country like a street car. If you had the fastest car on the street, and most of the money (and power) that's available for performance parts, you are going to want to stay like that. One way to stay that way, is to keep the best products unavailable to your competition out there. So some weak, uneducated, poor guy gets his own business going that could possibly create better products than what your car has.....if you had the power to either buy him out, or to crush him financially you know damn well you would. That's what America does....but we have the resources to also send supplies and help to other countries when we want to, so we always look like the "good guys."

I'm no anti-American or anything like that, but do not be fooled into thinking the US is any less corrupt nor anymore "deserving" of what we have.
