Not necessarily. For an inmate to become a punk, he'll have to be tested first. Other inmates will size him up and check him out to see what kind of person he is. Several groups (including white supreme groups) will challenge him to see how he carries himself. If he holds well and and holds his own, the chances of him becoming a punk grow greatly to slim to none.

The only thing that may hinder him would be the child molestation charge (if that's what he is going down with). And even then, he could get by with that if white gangs need to bolster their "strength in numbers." They won't give a shit about some young girl on the outside when they are fighting for their lives on the inside.

True, I just took a class on Criminal Justice and a few of the classes were about prison subculture. But there is a chance that because of child molestation charges, no one will want to accept. If they do, it's because they'll need him for something later on.
