Anyway, writing a paper on Sex Addiction for my Psychology class and trying to gather some info. You hornballs should have some good opinions.

Do you believe there is a double standard when refering to sex addiction?

Is it more acceptable for a male to be addicted to sex vs. a female?

women aren't allowed to be sex crazy without society labeling them as a whore unless they are just crazy about having sex all the time with one person. Society for whatever reason allows a man to have sex with as many people and as often as he wants without being labelled as much other than a "pig" and that's only if its excessive and also depends on how he is treating this women. A nice guy who has sex with a lot of women can avoid the bad labels pretty well though, and more often then not will probably even receive praise. In my opinion, sex is awesome, but people (male or female) are too quick to jump into the act with people they know nothing about, and it's taking the fun out of sex when you have to be worried about diseases all the time. I don't know what happened to commitment or relationships, but there are too many people who go out on one nights stands all the time.

Personally either gender should be view differently, that's why we have equal rights; right? In the general public but, mostly among men [a few women] will see that a woman having a high sex drive is well, more appeling. While if a man were to do the same, women would think that he is after one thing and that he is not truthful, stable, honest, and/or player. So this question can't be answered only be one person because we all have different views of what's acceptable. Even if all of IA would answer [truthfuly] you can't get a direct answer, to simply put it society has double standards... and futhermore the answers your getting from IA can't be really taken at face value. You have to be more diverse with the people your asking..

Me, I dont hate on a promiscuous female but i do feel that society does and personally I dont see what the big deal is. i guess to most the female is the object that should be chased and the male is the chaser. If you look at the way animals work you have the males out doing things against one another to try and impress the female and the winner gets the girl. There is a huge difference between someone who sleeps around and a sex addict. A sex addict associates everything with sex and lives for it. It consumes them.

If you enjoy having sex 2-5 times a day, you're more than likely normal and just enjoy sex.

If you enjoy having sex 2-5+ times a day, masturbate in between, watch porn everyday, and like to masturbate in strange places like while driving, you're more than likely an addict.

2 times I've looked over to see woman masturbating while driving. Unfortunately 2 times I've looked over and it was a man too. it seems like it goes back to when people are younger. when a girl loses her virginity, it's her "giving it up", and a guy is "gettin some", so for many it gets ingrained that it's more of a negative for women as for men.

Oh the double standard totally exists. Guys are held to such a high regard when they've got a thousand notches on their belt whereas girls are avoided like the plague when it's revealed that they've had more than a couple sexual partners.

It's also great how socially unacceptable it is to have not had sex. Is a person too old fashioned? Socially awkward? No, they could be perfectly normal people...once you find out they've never had sex, they're automatically labeled a misfit.

Then again, there's such a great weight that it carries and I think everyone makes too big a deal of sex. To me, it's a form of affection. A girl likes to have sex? Cool. I can understand many people who say there is sanctity in sex, but that's where most of these problems arise in the first place.

A sex addict is someone who is addicted to sex......usually due to some type of sexual abuse as a child. Any addiction of any kind is not healthy. What I'm asking is do you believe there is a double standard here?? You could "love a sex addict" but they wouldn't do you for the reasons you think.

I'm not one of the male sex addicts, but I can point out my fair share of FEMALE sex addicts in my little town. Do I believe there is a double standard? I don't think so. There is ONE helluva difference in advertising it though. I think there are some people that chose to think it's "cool" (males) and the ones that keep it so quiet you'd damn near never know (females). Eventually you find out either way given enough time.

As far as acceptable, I'm probably a bit older than the majority of the folk on this site mate, but I would say that it is probably more socially acceptable for the male sex addiction. As per the norm, a guy that touches everything he can is a "pimp" and a female with the same habits is a "whore" or a "tramp", "ho" whatever you kids call them these days.

Honestly though, in my experience, there are JUST as many women into mad play as there are men. Men just wear a bloody neon lit sign with lights that could land a bloody plane from NY denoting that's the way they are. Women of this persuasion are typically STILL playing hard to get, but when you get them, and you do well, they WILL NOT STOP. Is ok with me.

Most people posting responses are not taking into consideration the actual addiction. The promiscuity level of an individual is totally different than actually being addicted to sexual intercourse. There most certainly is a double standard for how many people someone of different gender's has sex with, however, sex addiction can not really be held to a double standard because of underlying emotional problems and memory suppression, which are associated with sex addiction. This is equivalent to there being a double standard in alcoholism between genders, which is ridiculous.
