qd we only need to see the stuff from the 80's. don't go too far back and show us pictures of you hanging out with fred and barney.![]()
Here we go. Sort of... I have examples of summer wear, fall wear and even me in a pair of some of the first pair of parachute pants when they first came out. Summer surf gear. This was the basic style for most people in the summer. Of course back then shorts weren't that long. These were actually considered pretty long then. Bugle Boy and Panama Jack were pretty popular. Of course they started off among surfers then it kind of went mainstream. The pic was from 1987 right after I got the car (Japanese classic now) and I was getting ready to head to Florida for my monthly surf trips. Then you see the cellphones from back then, lolol.
Winter wear consisted of the jeans jacket, sleeves unbuttoned and collar half popped. Untucked shirt, of course. This was around 1986.
Other picture is the only one I have of me wearing the parachute pants. 1979.
Later, QD.
Haha first two remind me of National Lampoon's Vacation.
I don't have pics but a BIG item of clothing to wear during the colder months were Starter jackets. Back then, they were the shit among black folks. During my "heyday" I was always spotted wearing my baby blue UCLA jacket. $75+ jackets. It was also a big thing to wear college logos instead of the Major League Baseball gear. You didn't see many NBA or MLB stuff then. It was really NCAA and a few NFL. They would also wear jeans/slacks type pants with suspenders. But we would wear the suspenders dangling from our sides. I had a pic of me in an outfit, but I can't find it right now. I had a pair of houndstooth print pants that I would wear. Also big was wearing shirts with a big Japanese symbol in the middle.
Chuck Taylors, Adidas, British Knights, Pony and Fila were huge in the shoe department. All hi-tops, of course. Vans got real big in the early to mid 80s. Especially Vans made without shoelaces; like slip-ons and checkerboard pattern. Another shoe fad was the "thick as hail" shoelaces. And mixed up colors and checkerboard laces. I think that style fell more towards skaters and such when the 90s started coming through.
The hats, as above, were mostly NCAA and NFL teams. It got very trendy in the mid to late 80s to wear them backwards. Rarely were they ever worn cocked to the side.
Later, QD.
i still remember the stupid bugle boy jeans commercials in the 80's.
beautiful woman: "excuse me, are those bugle boy jeans you're wearing?"
guy wearing bugle boy jeans: "why yes, they are bugle boy jeans"
i always thought those commercials were so retarded.
qd, don't forget the stupid fad of wearing the bandana around the neck like, i think it was van halen, can't remember. just remember seeing alot of people wearing those. i think painters caps were in at that time too.
Are those bugle boy jeans you wearin? Hell naw hoe you know they polo?
QD I wear shorts that short today.
Alright just saw this picture from the 09 Hip Hop Honors

British Knights (Dimacells?) I got in 1989-90 since they would make you jump 1" higher from the TV advertisements (green gell). Then my friend was like BK stands for blood killer. At the time I didnt know what a blood was, but apparently it was banned in a few states at the time. I do want to get a pair of those Dimacells now, but there is no telling if people still held on to them.
ok, googled it. it's dymacel. only 1 pair on ebay. maybe google it and find more people selling elsewhere. good luck.
oh yeah it says it's from early 90's.
I guess it is dymacel rather than how I spelled it, though Its been about 20yrs since I wore the fluffy AF1 looking BKs, far as well the 90-91ish dymacels. Im not a shoe collector of any sort, but if I see some dymacels for sale in 9-10's, than they will be mine for sentimental value.
