    Default It's called an engine, not a motor dammit

    I have a friend who likes to call the internal combustion device that powers our cars as 'motors' and it's getting pretty annoying.

    I dont know why people think that an internal combustion engine is only supposed to be called an engine. Its also called a motor. Heres why. The definition of a motor is a device that transforms any kind of energy into mechanical energy. In an internal combustion engine, you have an explosion, energy, which is transformed into mechanical energy, torque. Therefore, its called a MOTOR and an ENGINE.

    You're talking about from a physics point of view, it is a MOTOR, but who talks in physics terms?

    An engine(specifically a car engine- not one of your general physics engines) is a TYPE of motor... a motor encompasses MANY types of "motors"

    ...the same as the word ENGINE.... different scenarios different meanings... You can have your 19:1 CR d16y8 ENGINE, and a software engine, or whatever


    but at the end of the day you can call an engine a motor, and vice versa like pastor troy
