I was talking to an officer here about something similar and he told me that once the threat is diminished if you continue to fight back you could be charged with a crime. I asked about shooting someone and he said you would be better off killing the person trying to rob you rather than giving them a severe beat down. Moral of the story, dead men don't talk.
