The reason geese and other birds fly in V's..
Similar to drafting.. As the birds fly, it literaly breaks the wind making it easier for the other birds to fly behind. THe older geese fly towards the rear of the group, so that they have it easiest.
Also, they rotate on the lead, so the young birds can rest and take turns leading the group..
