The reason geese and other birds fly in V's..

Similar to drafting.. As the birds fly, it literaly breaks the wind making it easier for the other birds to fly behind. THe older geese fly towards the rear of the group, so that they have it easiest.

Also, they rotate on the lead, so the young birds can rest and take turns leading the group..

Not really. Wing tip vorticies create an upwash, that gives the bird behind it extra lift, which means it can fly at a lower angle of attack and reduce it's drag. Birds rotate the front because they have to work the hardest and get tired.
