Hey EJ, you really want to boil their noodles on autoblog?
Go post
"What did Dale Ernhardt and Pink Floyd have in common?
Thair biggest hit was The Wall!"
And really watch the shit fly
I don't even think there is a valid comparison between ASSCAR and F1. The techy kinda people will oviously say F1 is better, and that's easy to see because there is always progression in development in the cars and the rules are constantly changing. It keeps the teams on their toes and helps limit it from "being the team with all the money" from winning. Case in point, look at Button's finishes from the past two years compared to this year. Whereas in NASCAR, all the engines are the same carb'ed archaic pushrod designs that have been used for years. It
used to be that "win on Sunday sell on Monday" was how it went for NASCAR but now the cars only represent a mfg. by the headlight-shaped sticke ron the front and the sticker that says "Ford/Dodge/Chevrolet"..nothing else about the cars set them apart. I mean, it's just "spec" racing...all the cars have to fit the same EXACT aero template from nose to tail? Give me a break. Where can you still going into a dealership and buy a carb'd V8 anyway?
Honestly, I really think that NASCAR needs to get it's head out of it's ass and make some completely new aspects to how things are run. Add fuel injection, let the teams experiment with aero settings, let the cars actually look like their counterpart sitting at the dealership down the street, mandate that the original chassis of the car has to be RWD. I also think that, to a degree, NASCAR is staged. Think about it. If you really did have the one driver that was that good and was winning al lthe time, it wouldn't be as exciting. So inorder to create all the drama that the typical American loves (think American Idol/Survivor/daytime soaps/Jerry Springer) they "mix things up" to keep everyone talking about what's going on. All those teams make so much money, I doubt there is any hurt buy not winning.
There is just as much drama and mix-ups in F1 also, but it happens more behind the scenes and requires being more involved with watching whatever race and keeping up with it before the next race. Personally, I think the tracks are for more exiting, and the locations are just fantastic. But there are also times where races are actually uneventful.
With that said... i'd still rather watch (at least on TV) WRC, DTM, Australian Super V8, BTCC or ALMS.
