Never been in a gang because

1) never needed protection i couldnt afford myself
2) Never had enemies that threatened me
3) Never felt like i needed other people around me because i was too scared to be by myself
4) I have people i hang out with that i have similar interests with , those are FRIENDS, not gang members and we dont have stupid rules about colors and signs and shit.

To me gangs are like car clubs, its for people with low self esteem that need to be surrounded by other people with low self esteem to make themselves feel like they have FRIENDS.

Mafia is totally different than your BLoods/ Crips/Zoe Pound stuff. Mafia was more about a heirarchy from the old country, respect, and offereing protection to people that couldnt go to the cops. IMO, the Mafia as an organization is and was always more respected than the "gangs" you see nowadays
