Porsche and VW worked together for the 914. Porsche decided to put a Porsche badge on it because of the American market and it was worried how the image of Porsche would change.. It was supposed to have a VW version and a Porsche version but it decided to only have the Porsche version because Porsche didn't want such close correlation with VW..
