Laurens Sheriff’s Deputy Dustin Renfroe will never forget his second day

in his new position with the sheriff’s department after a simple traffic stop

turned into a major drug bust Tuesday.

Renfroe was riding with Cpl. Chris Waxxx when the two stopped a

1997 Nissan Maxima on Interstate 16 on a speeding violation just after noon

near westbound mile marker 52. Renfroe had moved from the county patrol

    to the Interstate Patrol unit.

“After we pulled him over we noticed a lot of movement inside the

vehicle,” said Waxxxx “We asked the driver to step out of the vehicle and

while Renfroe was talking to the driver I talked with the passengers.”

Waxxxx said he asked the passengers if they had anything in the vehicle

that would be considered illegal in the state of Georgia. One passenger

allegedly replied that a small amount of marijuana was in the vehicle.

“We got both passengers out of the vehicle and then I searched the

    vehicle,” said Warnock.

That search led to the arrest of the driver, Mostafa Michael Axxx 20, of

Alpharetta. Axxx was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to

distribute, possession of cocaine, possession of a concealed weapon,

possession of a drug related object, possession of the tools of a crime,

possession of prescription medication not in original container and speeding.

Also arrested were passengers, Christopher N. 20, of Alpharetta and

Raha Bag 19, of Alpharetta. Both Zo and Bag face the same

charges as Azi except the speeding charge.

Warnock alleged that during the search of the vehicle evidence was

found that led to the arrest.

“In the trunk I found two book bags. One bag contained marijuana and

digital scales. A small blue bag contained about $8,000 in cash. After doing a

complete search of the vehicle a small amount of cocaine was found in the

passenger’s coat pocket. A .9 mm handgun was also found in the trunk.

“They said they don’t know whose gun that was,” said Warnock. The

three, all claiming to be students of Georgia Southern University, said they

were headed home from school to Alpharetta. Warnock said Azi also

claimed the money was his to use for rent and school expenses.

The three are being held at the Laurens County Jail with a bond hearing

    pending.

    “We seized everything,” said Warnock.

Laurens Sheriff Bill Harrell shook the hands of both Warnock and Renfroe

as he told them they had done a good job.

“I’m very proud of the job you’re doing,” he told the deputies as he

patted them on the back while they were writing their reports on the arrest. “I

just want to enforce the laws of the state, keep drugs off the street and get

speeders off the road,” said Harrell.
