If you genuinely expect people to do what they are supposed to on the road, you are an ignorant fool. Compensate for other people's bad judgement. Someone tail gates you? Keep enough distance between you and the car in front of you to stop, but also keep enough to slow your car without slamming the brakes, giving the dumbass behind you time to brake as well.
Just so you know, if this had become an accident, you'd be the one with the ticket and not the Subaru. Granted, he should not have been speeding, but without this bit of information being posted on a forum, would you have known he was speeding? Could you have proved it? Even if you could, you entered the main thoroughfaire (sp) unsafely and can not maintain a safe motor vehicle in the state's eyes. You are more at fault than he was. If you were picking up someone in the middle of the street, you are absolutely at fault.
DunDunSkeert - Don't speed.
ksniperfox - Fix whatever is wrong with your truck and until then be more careful and courteous since your vehicle is prone to stall. And if you were picking someone up in the middle of the street, grow a brain and don't do that.
Both of you - Don't expect other drivers to always follow the rules of the road. Even if they aren't intentionally doing so, people make mistakes. Let your driving accommodate for that. Its just common sense.
