This is exactly what the problem with the "no knock warrants" is, and this is why it worries me. I DO have a gun.....LOTS of them as a matter of fact. 99.9% they are on me or atleast w/i reach. I've told my wife several times that this scenario is my worst fear. I've even had nightmares about it. Seriously. I don't want to hurt a LEO, but in the heat of the moment, when you're fight or flight response kicks in, it's almost impossible for both sides to make the proper identification and decision in that split second when your front door comes crashing in.
Think about it: Home invasions happen all the time. One of the M.O.'s is for the BAD guys to come in yelling, "POLICE!"....in order to get the upper hand quicker over their victims. It makes sense. If you are a law abiding citizen and someone yells "POLICE" at you, what do you normally do???? Stop, put your hands up, and freeze....right? That's what Home Invaders bank on.
Unfortunately, there are people out there that will likely put two in your chest and one in your head FIRST (since they are aware of the above scenario). I mean, seriously.....if you're a law abiding person.....nothing to fear about with law enforcement because you don't do drugs, sell drugs, running from the law, child molester, etc.....you're a basic run-of-the-mill good guy/gal......you're sitting at home in YOUR living room minding your business watching TV or sleeping and suddenly your front door gets knocked down......WHAT are YOU going to think???? How are YOU going to react????
I can tell you how I would react: I have a wife and 2 children in the house all the time....need I say more?
It'd be ugly at my house, guaranteed. That's why I've had nightmares about it.....
