Default Car Parts Store Prank Stories

    "Autozone."

"Yeah I need a new piston return spring for my RX7"

    "Ok what's the year?"

    "98"

    "Hmmm I don't see a 98, you said Mazda RX7 right?"

"Yessir, a 93 will work too."

"Ok and you said piston return spring?"

    "Yes."

"Well I don't see that here, but if you call Mazda they will definatly be able to get it for you."

    ...........

You can really be that dumb and work at a parts store? They don't make you have BASIC knowledge?

Ask for spark plugs, wires, cap, and rotor for a diesel. That will really fuck their world up.

    LOL at this thread.

When I worked as a Parts Consultant, at my local Ford dealership. I had a very cute chick walk in and as for the RR blinker fluid, and she even had the RR tail lamp in her hands.

I simply said "we were out of blinker fluid, but I do have something better. We call them bulbs. Here let me see which one goes for your car. What's the year make and model?"

    Her-"2005 Ford.....camaro?!? I think"

Me-"Ma'am a Camaro is a Chevy, do you mean Mustang?"

Her-"idk it has a horse on the front end."

Me-"ok I have the bulb in stock, and I can put it in for you. for the low price of 15 bucks."

Her-"hmmm well, I don't have anymoney on me right now, so I think I am just going to wait, and find some blinker fluid, I heard it's cheaper."

Me-"Ok, that's cool, too. Napa is about 3 miles down the road, ask for Glenn."

I gave it about 30 mins and I called Napa. I asked Glenn if a cute chick came in for a bottle of blinker fluid, and he said "yup, and I sent her to Autozone."

I agree. It's very frustrating when you call a place of business in search of something and the individual on the other end of the phone has absolutely no idea what you are talking about; however, that's just part of it. Everyone has to start somewhere.

I think it is more frustrating when you have a customer who does not know what he or she needs. "The customer is always right," is pretty much bs when you work in the automotive field, but that's when you just tell them, "This part is non-returnable," and go on with your day.

I was the Parts Department manager for a motorcycle dealership before I took the job I have now. It was very frustrating because when someone needed assistance, they were very reluctant to tell me their problem and asked for the manager. It really blew their mind that I was the manager. I completely understand that I am a female trying to make it in a male dominated field; however, I am very confident in my ability to fulfill a customer's request whether it be a window regulator for a Range Rover or an ignition switch for a Kawasaki Ninja.

I find it odd how you guys have such horror stories about car parts places. If, for some reason, I need to go to one of these places then I usually have a good experience.

Me - "Hey, I'm looking for a (insert part here) for a (insert car here), can you help me out?"
Them - "Let's see, that's a part number ##### and I have three choices available depending on price range."
Me - "Cheap because I'm broke as hell." *laugh*
Them - *laugh* "No problem, here you go. That'll be $##.## total."
Me - "Thanks man, have a good one."
    Them - "You too."

Maybe you guys just live in Retardville.

Ive always had pretty good experiences, because i know what I am looking for when I go in there. But seriously how can you blame them for the people they have, its a 7-8 buck an hour job. Anyone that actually knows what they are doing or ase certified is going to be working as a technician making double-triple that.

Yeah I rarely have a problem, point of the thread was jokes though lol.

Only time I had an idiot was when I needed a hose, and they wanted to know for what car, for what engine, what hose, etc. I just needed the hose it didn't have to be fitted lol, it was annoying.

Werd, these children don’t even really call/ask these prank questions in person....it’s all to make a semi-amusing thread. The People that work in places like Advance/Autozone and the like have to deal with their fair share of completely retarded ppl, they are paid (in most cases) minimum wage and like most any other low paying retail environments...they are a given VERY broad product knowledge. There isn’t a person in this thread that I couldn’t stump with an automotive related question about replacement parts (without obviously using google), that doesn’t mean you are somehow horribly under trained or uneducated.
