Yeah I get the mouth movement thing you speak of. I don't see that as a problem. I just think the stories are all too similar. I also take into effect that every story is stolen from somewhere else and it can all be traced back to Greek Mythology.
The Japanese have just played out the Hero's Journey. Which yes American animation does the same for the most part. It's just Americans are better at the deliver of the stories IMO. I use to be a fan of anime so I'm not trying to be biased. I just got bored of it because to me it was very redundant. All and all I just think anime lacks good storytelling. The stories are solid, but the delivery isn't.

Around the late 80's through the early 90's, everything was the same. Studios are finally starting to get their creativity back in Japan and it's been great. Check out some of these examples.
