Nicholson was great, but he wasnt the joke IMO. He played himself in makeup.

IF you really want to know who played the ROLE better, Ledger was better. The joker was a dark, demented, crazy character and ledger pulled it off. Its the joker we all wanted to see.

Nicholson was more flamboyant and not edgy enough.

but then again i think there were 2 versions of the joker. There was the 50s-80s style which was a clown who was funny and did diabolical things.

Then there is Ledgers character which was part of the whole Frank Miller DARK KNIGHT interpretation of what the Joker was.

In all honesty you cant really compare them, 2 different portrayals

Exactly. The Joker wasn't ever really designed to be this dark of a character. It's all a modern interpretation to give out sadistic society what it wants. Things were different back then and it's almost impossible to compare.

Besides, we all know who the real Joker is...
