Mud dobbers are much smaller. These things are HUGE! Imagine a wasp the size of your thumb.

My parents get those all the time in the backyard. Even though no one ever got stung by them, they scare the hell out of me. I used to hate mowing the yard. Damn satan bees.

is it true that the reason a lot of the hornets/bees/wasps, that dwell in the ground in ga, are red because of the red clay they "eat" to build their nests???

Cicada Killers are easily controlled. Just remember that all bees and wasp type insects become dormant every night when the sunsets. Go out during daylight and locate the ground nest. Use the cheapest Wasp spray you can find and apply it by label standards at each nesting point. Within a few days you will be completely rid of them.

This also goes for hornet, yellow jacket, wasp, etc. Always wait until dark and never run from them. They travel by wind current and will follow you for longer than you can run.

There isn't an insect in Georgia that eats concrete, dirt, soil or any other type of non nutritious substances.

Even Carpenter Ants don't eat wood. They just hollow out the wood to build a home very similar to ground nesting wasp/bee's..

Not to sound like an azz but you are reading old information or some theoretical BS. In the past few years Hornets have become very aggressive especially in the suburbs. We keep tearing their homes down and they just get more pissed off each time. I highly advise you not to try and aggravate them or you will not like the results. Stay as far away form them as possible. If they think you are a threat they will come after you without you taunting them at all.

They have taken over our yard, and they are all over our neighborhood. Over the past month they have progressively gotten more aggressive. Thinking about getting a specialist to come search out the nests and destroy them.
