He'll really regret his decision the older his son gets, also I don't understand how a woman can be engaged to a man that will deny his own son? Regardless of how he feels toward you I would tend to think that is a turn off.

My son is 7 now, I know some people look down on young single parents but I wouldn't trade it for an other experience I have had, or may have in my life.
