Default So oil dropped $16 a barrel last week...

...and prices dropped what, $.03? Yet at the slightest hiccup of oil going up in price, gas prices skyrocket. Gotta love it.

Yeah, gas went from $4.01 to $3.99 for regular where I live. God knows that if oil goes back up $5 a barrell then gas will be $4.20 for regular.

    true story...qft

but..we all know they drop the price so they can spike it back up to like +$.30 when gas 'sneaks' back up

it was in the $3.70 range in some places around here in marietta according to that cheap gas atlanta site.

The reason why it hasnt dropped alot is because people know its about to skyrocket again.

    Which is bullsh*t.

Oil price goes up, gas price goes up. Oil price goes down, gas price stays the same.

oh i agree 100000% with you.

I made a joke about how the if gas station owners here oil went up .01 they run outside to change the sign. When they hear it drops they say "lets see what happens".

Or maybe they have a room where people sit around and say "i think they will pay $5 a gallon, lets go for it".

Gas prices typically follow behind oil prices by 2-3 weeks. We should see the price of gas decline further by the end of this week into next as long as there is not another spike in oil prices. The sudden jump in gas prices when oil spikes is all based on speculation. They are slower to drop gas prices due to speculators not wanting to lose their asses if and when an increase in oil price occurs.

Let's hope the cost of a barrel of oil continues on a downward trend. We'll slowly see the good come out of it.

Ran its not that hard to figure out why it did not drop much at all.

The gas companies paid for that gas before the price of oil dropped so they need to get rid of this supply of more expensive gas before they are gonna lower the prices so they do not lose money. Gas stations dont make much money at all from gas, its all from the food and ciggs and beer.

So why is it that when oil prices go up, gas prices go up immediately but not so when oil prices go down?

oh I forgot to add the raise in gas prices is due to the addition of Ethanol in the fuel since it costs more to make it than regular gas since it's derived from corn, which has driven up the price of alot of produce too if you haven't noticed. Also the flooding in Iowa and other states that produce the corn has caused a decrease in supply thus driving up the price.
