No it is not okay at all.

If Jesse Jackson and the Rev want to go around parading that its okay for black artists to use it after the Don Imus controversy especially when this was brought into new light, then that is ridiculous.

Niger = "black" in Latin.

It was a word originally donned by white people for black people simply based on the color of their skin. Inherintly the word is harmelss, but it was used by white people in the North and South to talk down to black people for the most part, most people in the time didn't know that it was bad though.

It became a painful word after slavery ended and mostly not until the Civil rights movement did it become a taboo to say it in public.

The history of the word is not one used by black culture, it was used to demean them. SO I UNDERSTAND WHY THE WOULD NOT WANT WHITE PEOPLE SAYING THE WORD, BUT WHY WOULD THEY USE IT THEMSELVES?

double standard at best.

I don't use the word because i know it is a sensitive subject and there is no real reason to use it. But i think it is retarded when i hear it 50 times in a rap song.

eliminate it from your vocabulary, or stop complaining
