after reading all that i now know how it feels to be braindead . excellent info though, i can see what you mean about the misconceptions of certain reactions being taken as someone's "will" rather than merely an automated response to a stimulus. there's a lot of psychological crap tied up in all this conventional medicine too.

    Very good discussion.

I feel that she died years ago technically. I personally wouldn't want to be kept alive if there were no signs of me coming back. This poor lady will never be the same. As many have mentioned, she may have been suffering for a long time and not been able to communicate that. 15 yrs is really a long time. If it was a month, then I would see it differently. 15 yrs is a long time.

Personally, she needs to be let to rest. She's had enough suffering in one lifetime.

I agree that she should be allowed to pass, but I just wish that there would be a more humane way to do it. No, she won't feel it, but I still wish that there would be a way to end it quickly. This is what is so difficult about a PVS (Persistant Vegitative State), the subject will react to certain stimuli, but there is no conciousness whatsoever. This isn't like a coma, where people have come out of it, there has been no one in recorded medical history who has recovered from being in a PVS. It is just really hard for the family to accept, because the person is responding to certain things, but there is just nothing there.
What if there is no tomorrow? There wasn't one today.

i have to agree with you on that as well... but that also gets into the topic of assisted suicide which has always been a hot topic. honestly in this case it's been deemed that she will die, but they might as well give her an injection and end it quickly instead of causing her to starve to death, whether she feels it or not.

if you go back about 14 or so years ago you will know that Michael Schiavo (The husband) received 600,000 in a malpractice lawsuit and Terri received 250,000 and 1.4 million. Ever since he received the money he has continiously denied advanced research and therapy for Terri. All he seems to have wanted was the money.
