Not if you sell it before the batteries wear out completely. They have done a good job of holding their value.

But the reason a lot of people are buying the Prius is because of the gas. Its a nice car and all but it can actually cost more in the long run like you said plus it actually releases more carbon emissions to make a Prius than it does to make a Hummer.
