Offical Pedo Bear Rule Discussion Thread

I have run websites in the past (taking a break for school) and I do know how hard it is to turn down a customer, the first couple times. Sometimes they will straight-up leave and you move on, other times they will reconsider and perhaps change their criteria for the site. Julio has given up control of the site to his sponsors. Just because his name is on the certificate doesn't mean it's his anymore. He is merely working for them when he decides to meet their every request.

So here's where IA as a business stands:
An advertiser comes, looking for access to the wide consumer base. They say "well, we don't like this and that" And here goes Julio and the mods, out to change stuff. Now they are working for the sponsor. So not only is Julio selling his product (user base) he is also adapting it to each customers specific request, which we can call personalization (thus changing the consumer base, even slightly)

i quit reading after this. why? because i can conclude with 100% certainty that you have absolutely no idea how this site is run and what the plans are for its future. seriously, not trying to be **** about it or be an *******, just calling it like it is.

I really don't know how this site is run, you are correct. But I DO know how to run an effective and efficient BUSINESS (as it seems IA has lost much of it's qualities as an online community), and I can tell you right now that this one's heading in the wrong direction. I didn't post what I did to be an *******. I would like to see this site continue to be successful, but from what I've seen, Julio needs some help.

I really don't know how this site is run, you are correct. But I DO know how to run an effective and efficient BUSINESS, and I can tell you right now that this one's heading in the wrong direction. this isn't a BUSINESS to them, or did you miss my first post where i said IA isn't a full time job for julio or paul? for one, if this were a business, they would've started charging a long time ago...

I understand that it's not full time for them, but it is a business. If it wasn't why would they worry about sponsors and moderation so much?

And as for charging, there are advantages/disadvantages, especially for a message board.

As I said I'm am simply trying to help. The fact that this isn't a full time job means what I've said is even more relevant. They spend too much time worrying about how to make sponsors happy. They are (should be) selling a product, not a product + service (personalization)

The only thing Julio may need help with would be the financing of the site. This site just gets more successful by the day. I can't tell you of one web forum that has been as active as this one for the time it has been on the air. An unsuccessful website would not be in the position IA is in today.

Now what I agree with you on is this.....IA should get rid of all incorrigible "jokes." Especially if one is being targeted. One is not much greater than the others. Cussing is censored yet you can click one link and watch whatever porn is posted in there. RLD needs to be gone IMO.

I agree fully, my question is if it has been successful for so long, why start changing things that don't need to be? Especially when these changes make people upset. I understand that there will always be someone that doesn't agree with changes, but there needs to be a balance between sponsor happiness and user happiness. You can't just sway one way because one side is sending you a check every month.

But anyway, back to the topic of the thread. Mods shouldn't be able to do this stuff, period. If they all get together and come to an agreement, fine. But they are MODERATORS, not rule makers.

I'm glad the "pedobear rule" is in effect. I think they should do the same with rape jokes and incest jokes and racsim jokes. If you get rid of one, you should get rid of all.

Now I don't want to see the site become 100% PC, but cutting out some of this crap will be good I think. I've always supported getting rid of RLD, for example.

I've never seen any of the joke content as a problem as long as it stays in the WL. That's why it exists. It's just generalized "anything goes" BS. Keep it out of the serious forums and leave the WL alone. If you don't like it, don't come in. It's like how I see the RLD. I don't really like it, but if I don't go to it then it won't bother me. It has it's place and that's where it stays. Same thing for the WL.

What is funny about rape? Racism? Pedophilia? There's no place for that anywhere. WL included. To me, some joking is fine. But the massive outpouring of pedophilia jokes on IA was really getting annoying. I think this was the main reason for the rule. It got to where everyone of the people that spend countless hours on here posting nothing was washing down the WL with that pedo-crap. Later, QD.

bc i guess part of the issue is that the pedobear thing was in ppls sigs, something you can't get away from if you wander away from the WL.
