3rd Graders Charged
(WSB Radio) -- A group of Georgia elementary school students have been charged in an alleged plot to kill their teacher.
The students, 8 and 9 years old, attend Center Elementary School in Waycross.
Acting on a tip from another student, police seized a broken steak knife, handcuffs, duct tape, electrical and transparent tape and a crystal paperweight.
"They definitely took steps toward the goal of hurting the teacher, but whether they would have carried through on it had there not been intervention, we can't say for sure," said Police Chief Tony Tanner.
"We estimate between six to nine students were involved. ... We're not sure at this point in the investigation how many of the students actually knew the intent was to hurt the teacher," Tanner said.
The names of the students have not been released, and they are considered too young to be charged with a crime under Georgia law.
A preliminary investigation suggests revenge was the motive.
