Easily get her some flowers, and take her to lunch or dinner. Its more about the memories, than some gift. But than I COULD be wrong.
Flowers and dinner are cliche. If you really like this girl and want to get her attention you need to do something else, how long have you known her, do you want to maybe eventually hook up seriously with her?

Can you cook? Find out her fav. dinner (thru a friend if possible, or her) Invite her over to eat with you. Throw in some good wine during the dinner, and see where it goes from there.
Well what does she like to do? Some chicks arent into nice restaurants. Some chick are into that. My recommendation? You can never go wrong with Italian restaurants like Maggiano's. As far as a gift, well again that depends on what she likes. What are her interests?

If this chick bangs on the first dates, she probably trash anyways, I wouldnt get her anything. You might show a lot and be more attractive to her if you go in with no expectations. For being broke and trying to impress, your picking the wrong day to do it....I've taken girls out on there b-day and spent in excess of $250-350, dinner, drinks, and taking them to a hot spot in town that night still supplying drinks..
I would be incredibly impressed if a guy invited me over to his (clean) apartment, and had a whole host of movie theater candy and popcorn and sodas (cokes in the bottle, that sort of thing) and then when it came time for the movies it was stuff like Thelma and Louise or When Harry Met Sally or Sliding Doors. Chick stuff, you know. Or something you KNEW she liked, or something universal like Monty Python and the Holy Grail. And then talk through the whole movie with her. And you can drink and play all responsible cause you're not driving anywhere.
Or if you want to get her something material, get her something stupid like a bear, or something cute and embarrassing like a HUGE bunch of balloons so she has to carry around a talking spongebob mylar balloon all day and people are asking "who are those from?!"

Well sweet! Your in the clear! I'd just do my initial offering, Dinner and wine/beer/liquor what ever she likes, and do a funny movie, that way you can move around and get close, laugh etc...scary movies your just sitting there trying to get close and that gets old..

Thing is I've done that plenty of times with her, I've cooked for her at my place and chilled the night out watching movies drinking, and the same at her place. (actually did that last night, she cooked for me)
