    when a particle attached to a spring that is returning to EQ pos. it will have an accel. Therefore, it will go beyond the EQ pos and return, causing a back and forth motion

    when you add mass to the end of the spring connected to a static object creates a new EQ pos. defined as follows:

    mg=k*delta S
    k=mg/delta S
