What does everyone think about vista? I heard it can actually mess up your computer at times.
If you are going to be doing the kind of work I reccomend you go with nothing less than A Lenovo Think Pad. The are quite posisbly the sturdiest normal laptop you can buy. It has a stainless steel cage behind the screen,Stainless Steel hinges, and an air bag like system that deploys around the hard drive in case you should drop it really hard from like 100ft. The were built by IBM but Lenovo bought the rights a couple of years ago. My dad has had the same one for the last 6 years and has absolutely no problems with it whatsoever. I personally wouldn't buy anything else after this now. As far as Vista goes. everyone seems to have mixed reviews about it but almost all of the kinks have been worked out of it. The key to making vista run the way it should is having the right amount of Ram. I run it on mine with only a gig. While it sufices yes it takes forever to boot up. You really need 2 gigs to run it at its full potential. Hope this helps

EDIT: To give you an Idea price wise.

My Setup

Lenovo R61
15" screen
Bluetooth
Wi-Fi
60gig hard drive
CD/DVD RW
1 gig of ram
Windows Vista Busines
$1150

of course you can add the extra ram and stuff but if you end up ordering from them direct it will cost you. I suggest buying something similart to mine having them add a larger hard drive and then going and getting the ram upgrade yourself.
